At the start of every year, Pinterest puts out a report on what they predict to be the big trends of that year, and they are crazy accurate! 8 out of 10 of their 2020 trend predictions came true, and this year’s list looks like it’s going to be just as spot on. They share predicted trends for all of their top categories, including home, wellbeing, fashion, food and drink, and more.

Why should you be paying attention to the trend report?

Because it will help you to create and share the kinds of content that your audience wants to see (thus increasing your brand awareness, reach, website traffic, conversions, and all that good stuff). It’s like a content crystal ball that allows you to plan and create content on the years’ most popular topics in advance.

How to use Pinterest trends in your marketing strategy.

As I mentioned earlier, Pinterest Predicts is an invaluable tool for your marketing strategy because it shows you what people will be searching for, so you can plan content for the upcoming year that you know your readers are going to want to see.

You can search for trends based on audience and category, allowing you to really hone in on the topics that are most relevant to your brand. You can see what is trending in general for each audience demographic or category, or you can get more specific and see what will be trending for a specific category in a specific audience group.

Say your target demographic is Millennials interested in wellbeing (like me!)- narrowing down your search to these two specifics, and you’ll see that Millennials interested in wellbeing will be searching for topics relating to manifestation and rest in 2021.

Another amazing feature is that you can click on each individual trend, and it will give you a more in depth look at that specific topic. This includes trending search terms for each trend (hello done-for-you keyword research!), tips for brands on how to work with the trend, and global data on who is searching for what (based on location).

Tailoring the trends to your marketing strategy

Take some time to look over the 2021 trends and find the topics that relate to your niche. From there, you can brainstorm on ways to incorporate these topics into your strategy for the year. For example, if you’re a wellness coach who works primarily with Millennial women, you could create blog and social media content on how to prioritize rest and the benefits that more rest will offer you.
